I just picked this movie mostly at random from Netflix’s recommendations and wow. It was SO GOOD. It was sweet and funny and beautifully shot and had an amazing soundtrack and a wonderful story. The two lead actors, Sam and Amber Jaeger, are husband and wife in real life and they were perfect together. Sam also wrote and directed it. It’s a road-trip movie, a comedy, and a romance. Netflix made it sound kind of like a cheesy typical rom-com, but while it was both funny and romantic, it was also moving and had some meaningful reflections on families and relationships, but without being preachy or cheesy. It made me cry (and I don’t cry easily). Hollywood studios spend millions and don’t make anything half as enjoyable and sincere and charming and just plain good as this low-budget indie. It wasn’t anything artsy or ground-breaking or anything, it was just a beautiful story well told and well acted. It’s one I’ll definitely watch again (and again) and probably buy on DVD.
